I work closely with all staff in school, parents, outside agencies and colleagues in our feeder primaries. I have a breadth of SEN (Special Educational Needs) experience in a range of settings including primary, Pupil Referral Unit, profound and multiple learning difficulties special school, grammar and mainstream secondary.

I have the responsibility of co-ordinating the provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs, Social and Emotional needs, English as an Additional Language (EAL) and monitoring the success of interventions. I also oversee the support on offer for Young Carers and refer pupils identified to this service.

Support is available through:

  • Giving advice on issues related to SEN to both staff and parents.
  • Meeting with parents to discuss any concerns they may have regarding their child’s development or learning difficulties.
  • Assessments of individual pupils to identify need.
  • Referrals may be made to other professionals e.g. Educational Psychologist or signposting to other agencies that can provide support.

Senior LSA: Mrs D. Smith

SEN Qualifications:

THRASS phonics programme, Fresh Start phonics programme, Word Attack, Talk Boost.

With many years of experience in both primary and secondary settings Mrs Smith has specialised in literacy support and delivers high quality interventions to individuals and small groups. Implementing a range of recognised programmes that support the individual’s literacy needs, Mrs Smith works with pupils and also supports other staff within the team to provide quality interventions covering all aspects of literacy (reading , writing,spelling, speaking and listening) and monitor progress and success of interventions and assists the SENCo with co-ordinating effective support both in the classroom and through withdrawal.

Learning Support Assistants:

Our large team has a wide range of experience, expertise and training enabling them to effectively support pupils across the curriculum. Many of our team have specific training in a range of literacy support interventions. The team has also had training from CBIT (Child Brain Injury Trust) in order to support pupils with this condition and training in working with pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and ADHD amongst other difficulties. We are constantly learning as a department and developing new ways to support pupils to allow them to become successful, independent young adults.


Learning Support Admin Assistant: Mrs T. Rodmell

Mrs Rodmell assists the SENCo with the administrative tasks within the department and is often the first contact for parents when they telephone the department. Mrs Rodmell is experienced in the workings of the department and can often answer queries or signpost parents to relevant staff that are able to assist them. She manages Mrs Tongue’s diary and organises dates and paperwork for annual reviews with parents. Mrs Rodmell assists the SENCo overseeing pupils at break and lunchtimes and knows many of our SEN pupils well.
